BARRIER CULTURE’s circular approach to addressing skin and environmental health in tandem enables us to reduce skincare consumption while seeing real results.
The modern approach to beauty consumption is doing two things; driving over 95 billion units of plastic packaging to landfills each year, a significant contributor to air pollution, while also destroying our skin barrier.
Over 90% of skin conditions can be traced back to an impaired skin barrier, the skin’s natural immune system responsible for defending against pollution, UV light, infection and locking in hydration.
BARRIER CULTURE MOISTURISER is designed to protect and repair your skin’s natural barrier function, as well as replenish your topical microbiome. Your skin is home to trillions of microbes (bacteria) that perform a symbiotic function on our skin barrier, helping to maintain pH balance and protect the skin. Of the trillions of bacteria making up your microbiome, it’s estimated that 26% of that is found in your gut, while 21% is found on your skin. Your skin is an ecosystem.
BARRIER CULTURE MOISTURISER layers multiple hydrating, moisturising, repairing and rebuilding actives into one formula. The result is a lightweight moisture seal that reduces TEWL (transepidermal water loss), improves the skin’s natural barrier function, repopulates the topical microbiome and actively conditions skin. Key actives including peptides, squalane, niacinamide and ceramides work to reduce dark marks, improve the skin’s immune function and boost collagen and elastin production—all of which support the long-term health of skin and rebuild the skin barrier.
Most moisturisers are only partially supporting your skin. Hydrating (drawing water into the skin), moisturising (sealing moisture in the skin) and repairing the skin barrier are all different functions performed by different ingredients. Hydration is the absorption of moisture from the air which then infuses your cells with water, to improve your skin's ability to absorb moisture and nutrients.
Moisturising reduces the amount of water that evaporates off of the skin to minimize transepidermal water loss (TEWL), locking and sealing in moisture.
The probiotic in BARRIER CULTURE MOISTURISER is a patented format developed in one of the leading probiotic research centers globally. Unlike living bacteria which is hard to stabilize or maintain or pasteurized bacteria that doesn’t perform any action on the skin, the format we use is both viable and stable. Our Lactobacillus Plantarum extract is the first processed probiotic with an intact cell wall, allowing it to deliver the full specific properties of the live bacteria though it is technically inert.
The patented technology in BARRIER CULTURE CLEANSER is clinically proven to reduce particulate matter (pollution) induced skin barrier damage by 45% in three days (ex vivo) and improve skin moisturisation by visibly reducing skin dryness and decreasing TEWL (trans-epidermal water loss) by 6.5% in 42 days (in vivo).
